THE FALLACY OF "BRITISHNESS"

In his speech at the Labour Party Conference Gordon Brown mentioned "Britishness" 71 times.
Just what is he trying to prove?
It appears that Gordon Brown is now playing down the issue of devolution and keeping silent on the subject. I wonder why?

I think he is trying to prove that England doesn't mind being ruled by Scots. And that were Britain to break up it would mean perpetual Conservative governemnt for England.

But then as someone who voted for a Welsh parliament, I see this as a good thing.

But then Labour is not good at dealing with the reality of life in the British Isle:
