Gerry Adams urges Spanish Govt. 'to grasp the opportunity'

Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams urged the Spanish government "to grasp the opportunity presented by the significant move", referring to an announcement by the armed Basque group ETA to no longer employ offensive armed actions.
Commenting after the announcement of the ceasefire, Gerry Adams welcomed the announcement made by ETA "to pursue Basque independence through peaceful and democratic means". "This is a significant statement and has the potential to bring about a permanent end to the long running conflict in the Basque country," Adams said.
"It is now vital that the Spanish government respond positively and grasp the opportunity to advance a peace process presented by today's announcement and quickly establish inclusive political negotiations," Gerry Adams added.

Euskadi is the homeland of the 3 million Basque peoples who inhabit northern Spain, parts of Navarre and South-West France. Their situation is analogous with that of the Kurds, who live in parts of Iraq, Turkey, Iran and Syria. Boundaries should be redrawn to reflect ethnic divisions - is the opinion of this blog.....
