The Plot that Failed

The failure of the plot by Geoff Hoon and Patricia Hewitt to remove the Great Leader had this effect:

1. It showed the extent to which the Labour party is diivided.
2. It showed how inept the former ministers were at  organising and conducting the proposed ballot.
3. It showed how the Cabinet does not want to rock the boat but yet is reluctant in its support for the PM.
4. It showed that "we can't go on like this" is not just a Tory slogan.
5. It showed that nobody is prepared to make a challenge and step into the breach.
6. To keep a deeply unpopular PM in office will increase the anti-government vote in the election.

All in all, it was a good thing for democracy that it took place and that it failed.
