British parties have little interest in recognising and promoting the Welsh Language.
Jill Evans MEP, of Plaid Cymru, stands for Wales as a European nation, and national pride in the culture and heritage as well as the the rights of the Welsh people to use their own language as well as the international language - English.

  1. Hello from Conwy! I don't liker the reference to English as "the international language". English is a widely spoken language, but is only one of the six thosand languages on the planet Earth.

My own choice of international language is Esperanto, which I have used extensively, in Brittany, in Slovenia and elsewhere. My own formula for a fair and equitable linguistic regime is to have people use their regional or national language within their territory, then use Esperanto as a neutral international tongue. Take a look at www.esperanto.net

    Dymuniadau da!

  2. Maein ddrwg gennyf...
Esperanto never caught on and never will.
Like it or not, English is the international language and will remain so.
Think of the statistics: how many people in the world speak English and how many speak Esperanto?

  3. If Welsh speakers wish to use Welsh between themselves that is their affair but kindly don't expect the rest of us to have to pay for that 'privilege'.

By the way, the Lingua Franca of the UK, Wales included, is English and will remain so.

  6. Welsh shouldn't be used in Europe, for the simple reason that Wales shouldn't be in Europe!

  7. Can I comment on Bill Chapman's suggestion that Esperanto needs more serious support?

The good thing about a non-national language, like Esperanto, is that it protects minority languages, by placing all languages on an equal footing.

Esperanto opposes the "linguistic imperialism" of the English.

It is good then that eight British MP's have nominated Esperanto for the Nobel Peace Prize 2008.
