Flag Flying Policy - Cardiff

Subject: RE: Flag Policy

In relation to the buildings managed by me, flags are flown at two - County Hall and City Hall. In the case of County Hall, the Union Flag, Welsh Flag and County Council Flag are flown, in the case of City Hall the Union Flag and Welsh Flag are flown from the two roof top Flag Poles, the County Council Flag is flown from the Portico and a range of other flags, including that of the European Union, are flown in the surrounding area.
I am unaware of any change in the flag flying policy applying in Scotland, however the situation is that Wales ( and indeed Scotland ) remains part of the United Kingdom and accordingly it is quite appropriate and proper to fly the Union Flag at public buildings. I have received no contrary advice from the United Kingdom Government nor from the National Assembly of Wales - which continues to fly the Union Flag amongst others at its Cardiff Bay office.
In view of the sensitivity of this issue any decision to cease flying the Union Flag would I suggest need to be taken at member level within the County Council.

Q.) WHERE IS WALES IN THE UNION FLAG?
A.) SUBSUMED IN THE CROSS OF St GEORGE!
